Title: 1988 K5, brakes and steering
Post by: Austin4wd on January 16, 2017, 08:59:44 pm
Okay so I have a 88 K5, and I recently changed the passenger side rubber brake hose and brake caliper in the truck, as it was pulling to the right. Now that it's installed and bled, the truck is doing a couple things it never has. One, the steering wheel seems easier to turn (then again, I've been working out so maybe it's my imagination but in case it actually is a mechanical issue I should mention it), and its pulling to the left, so is my front left seized up as well or does this caliper need time to adjust to the pressures or did all this time (maybe a year?) worth of driving it with it pulling to the right throw out my wheel alignment? I need serious help as left is into oncoming traffic and I don't wanna write this truck off

Always replace hoses in pairs.  If one side is bad the other is probably right behind it.  The fronts are separate so I would assume the opposite side went bad.  The brakes shouldn't impact steering.

Alright will do, and update: the brake is seized because I got stuck and only had 3 wheels pushing me out, fried my t-case and transmission. Good thing I have an extra of each

might have only had 3 wheels turning do to the open dif in the front. jack the front up have someone press the brakes then release them and try to turn the wheel and see if you can feel the brake dragging.
