Greetings to everyone,I'm a 40yr old chevy lover from East Alabama, I have been working on and around chevys all my life and I love the 80's models.I'm a proud owner of a 85 gmc sierra lwb all original, 87 Chevy r10 lwb all original, 2000 chevy s10 all original, 2004 chevy silverado all original,2012 gmc acadia,82 chevy c30 dually 3+3 which is my project and will be picking up a 96 chevy 3500 dually with 6.5 diesel engine next week. My reason for being here is bc I wanna build my 82 dually with a ls engine and not sure which way to go ls 6.0/4l80 or 5.3/4l80.once I figure out how to navigate on this forum im sure I will be raking someone nerves with a lot of questions, but once again Hello from bama

welcome from maryland. if you havnt found it yet we do have a child board under the "engine/drivetrain" board. me personally would go with the 6.0 cause i will always be thinking "why didnt i do the 6.0 while driving the 5.3 around

Yeah you are right about the 6.0 but I can put my hand on a 02 tahoe complete with the 5.3 that has been totaled for cheap

Welcome from central California. I wouldn't use a 5.3 for a dually. The only engines I would consider for a dually would be a 6.0, 6.2 or the 8.1. And for a dually, I would go straight for the 8.1 because if you get one out of a truck they came with an Allison transmission. the 4l80 is a great trans, but when compared to the Allison, the Allison is superior. For a gasoline fueled dually, the 8.1/Allison combo will be the best by far. if you can't get your hands on an Allison, any Suburban/Yukon XL that has an 8.1 will have a 4l80 with it. They will be 2500 Suburban and 2500 Yukon XL. If you don't want an 8.1, 07-13 Yukon & Yukon XL Denali's have 6.2s.

What will be dually be used for? With good gearing behind a 4L80E the 5.3L may be just fine. Power wise it kills anything a stock 5.7 ever had.
