Title: New from WV
Post by: Monkey Uncle on February 26, 2017, 08:20:10 am
Hi folks,

Greetings from the hills of West Virginia.

Just joined up to learn more about my "frankentruck" that I bought a couple of months ago:

'85 C-10 body
'78 GMC frame, axles, and engine
?? transmission
4X4

She's got the typical 350 V8/turbo 350 engine/transmission combination.  The body came from Georgia, and was obviously garage-kept.  It still has the original paint, which, aside from a few scratches here and there, is in great shape.  Pretty much zero rust on the body, except for a few tiny surface spots where the paint has been scratched.  Easy touch-ups.  The frame is local, but is in surprising good shape.  Has been brushed and painted.

The truck was assembled from various parts by the previous owner; new body mounts, new front clip, brakes/brake lines, and many of the peripheral parts on the engine replaced, but basically still has the old guts in the entire drive train.  He told me it has 124k on the motor/chassis and 78k on the tranny.  He didn't give me any reason not to believe him, but that's basically just his word.

Anyway, I didn't set out to buy a classic truck; I just wanted something inexpensive and practical for occasional local hauling.  I couldn't see sinking 10-15k into a 10 year old truck that had 100k+ on the drive train and was well on its way to developing rust issues.  So, I took the dive into the classic truck world.  It's definitely not a show truck, and I definitely didn't pay a show truck price.  But it's a little bit more than a boring work truck.

Cheers,

Monkey Uncle
