Hi all, Thinking about trying to add some tow/recovery shackles, starting with front, then adding to rear later. I have seen the CUCV style ones, and while nice, I don't think I want them sticking out through the bumper or to even cut holes in my bumpers(Stock, rear step). So does anyone have any ideas on how to make it usable, but semi hidden as well? I have tried searching but with little luck-I'm sure others are into off-roading and might have seen/done something. Thanks.

The only thing I can think of (other than the CUCV parts) would be to mount a front & rear receiver hitch with a shackle insert. You could just install the shackle when you go off road.

for the front you can go with the factory style tow hooks off the frame just behind and below the bumper. On the rear it wouldn't be hard to install generic tow hooks in the same sort of setup if you have no receiver hitch just drill the mounting holes where you want them and bolt a set onto the frame, if you do have a receiver hitch just get a hook or shackle attachment that slides into the receiver as Fitz suggested

I'll see what a front receiver will take.
And I don't want tow hooks-seems the strap always works its way out at the worst times, even with those thin metal closure things-shackles eliminate this as a issue.
Most of what I need these for is light duty we have logging roads I need to travel, plus the occasional muddy field, most of the time a come-along and some snatch blocks I can get unstuck.

You could always go with a custom made bumper.
This 1 came off a parts truck I parted out years ago.
It has 2 D rings & a reciever hitch.
It looked great on the truck it was on.
Someday (hopefully) I'll coat it with the bedliner material you & Philo_beddoe were talking about & put it on my stepside.
