Title: Trans help!
Post by: Austin4wd on March 18, 2017, 10:25:49 pm
Hey guys my Blazers 700R4 shoot the bed and we all know that means upgrade time! I wanna 4L60E swap it and I have a 94 Chevy 1500 with a brand new rebuilt 4L60E and a worn out engine and body. I also have a 91 K5 with electronic speedo. I was digging on Facebook and one guy says I need to make sure I have all speed sensors and if I remember right the 94 has one for each front tire and one in the t-case for back wheels, whereas the 91 has one one in the t-case.  Somebody else has to have done this swap before and have advice/pointers on what to do and how to do it right?

I have never done the swap, but I think you'll find the front sensors are for the abs, and you'll only need the rear sensor and an rpm input. My best advice is to pull the harness and go through it, and inspect the wiring manuals for that year.

What are you going to use to control the trans? Are you using a standalone controller?

You do not need ABS wheel speed sensors, you need the VSS input signal.

to control those trans you need TPS signal, Output Shaft speed, Tachometer signal, and a Vehicle speed sensor. the output shaft sensor and vehicle speed sensor are part of the trans. you will only need the tach and tps signals, i cant help you cause i may know what you need ive never done it before and dont want to give bad info. but i know those are the required signals even for a stand alone tcu.

i would suggest if the 94 is the same size as your current motor to convert your current to TBI and take use the 94s wire harness and trans and have ever thing working together, and again i cant help you with the 4x4 conversion. although you have the right t case the 4l60e might require a different output shaft because of the reluctor ring on the output shaft might be in the way IDK have to wait till someone can confirm or deny

Sorry about being away guys, my blazer is an 88 so it's TBI already and the 94 is a Z71 so clearly 4wd. I was thinking about reusing all of the 94 controls since it's all there, I might as well use it for anything I'd need to do it. It's a lot cheaper than rebuilding a 700R4 or trying to find a used one that I can't trust
