I have been looking at posts and forgive me if I missed any dealing with this subject, but I was wondering if anyone else has the street coupe option (Z77). This was an option on Gmc shortbox trucks (and some vans) for the years 77 to 81. Anyway I have a 79 gmc shortbox stepside with this option and a few other options that go along with the Z77 option. You can't tell that my truck has this by the current paint or hood emblem but the mystic color interior is still there. I plan on repainting it the original two tone paint (Charcoal & Mystic). Paint is not a problem but finding the right hood emblem and reproducing the body stripes and finding the right interior dye might prove a little difficult, (I'm keeping an eye on ebay and hoping). Well if any of you have the street coupe option or any other information I would like to hear from you. Thanks.

I saw a "Street Sedan" van just last week by my office. Was pretty beat up and rusty and being used as a work van. I took note of it though when I saw the white and black paint with the orange striping and decals and thought of the trucks. I imagine they are fairly rare.

i picked up a hood awhile back with stirpes on like that

they are faded out but there is 3 different color stripes on it Edited by: 75 C20 at: 4/10/07 7:28 pm

I'll send some pics of my truck as soon as I get off of nights, question for 75 C20 do you happen to still have that hood with the stripes on it? If so how wide are they? There should be two shades of red and an orange. What did it have on it for a hood ornament?
-
yeah i still have the hood- it does have two shades of red and an orange- all together they measure 6 1/2 inches across so each one measures...well about 2 4/25 inches across. as far as the hood ornament it just has one like this on it http://www.classicparts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=59-371
-
75 C20-Thanks for the measurement! At least now I know what I need for the Hood, if I can just get some measurements on the side stripes, tailgate and rear fenders my only other real hurdle would be the Hood emblem, Anyway thanks again for taking the time to measure those stripes,
-
if those street coupes are kinda rare i may have to go back and get the whole truck from the junk yard ;D
-
You may want to head back and get it then, as they are rare when it comes to 73-87's.
-
They are rare, as they were an option that the person buying the truck had to pick out and pay for. The Street Coupe option was just an appearance package, most people, I would think that a majority of people, buying trucks then, were either looking for performance type upgrades or the longer bed for more cargo space (this only was offered on the shortbox's). Of course this option was something the person buying a truck had pick out and maybe most people just looked at the trucks on the lot and didn't really take the time to look at all the options with the dealer. I'm really only guessing at this but these have been my thoughts on the matter, if you have others I'd like to hear them. Thanks for the interest on the matter...
-
I can remember the local Chevy dealer when I was a kid always had a few trucks on the lot that had stripes like that. I was too young to know what they were then. looking back on it now I figure they were street Coupes and 4x4 Sport packages. I know where one of the sport trucks is. It was abandoned at a local body shop after the guy couldn't come up with the money to fix it up. It sat for a long time then the owners son fixed it up. He put an 88 style bed on it and painted it a jade green with silver two tone along the bottom edge. Put newer style rubber and chrome trim between the two colors. Looks like crap. He has also been driving around for about 5 years with a broken center bolt, dog tracks. I have often wondered were all the others are that were sold out of that dealer. It long since gone out of business and been torn down. Make way fro a pizza / Italian resteraunt and a mini mart.

75 C20 I should of asked this earlier, Were those stripes painted or tape? if they are tape could I talk you into maybe sending me a sample section with all three colors, if it's not too much of a hassle? I would understand if you don't want to go through the trouble but if I could get a sample it would help me out a lot. Let me know what you think, if your interested I'll send you my address, if not thanks anyway.
-
I can tell you that if they are factory, they are taped.
-
yeah they were just stickers- id be willing to send you a sample of those stripes but i dont really have any ideas on how to get a section off and still have it look like anything- i already toook one side off since im strippin it and gonna paint it- if anybody has anyideas on how to tkae a nice section off tell me
if nothing else maybe some pictures of the stripes close up would work for you?
-
75 C20 even if you could just get some small pieces of each color that would be OK. I was just thinking that if I have samples of each of the colors I could have my brother-in-law compare them with the stripe materials that he has (He has a paint and collision shop), Like 1 inch by 1 inch would be great. If there is something you're looking for, let me know and I'll keep my eyes peeled. Thanks again for your time.
-
If you take a heat gun or a hair dryer and heat the strip up and use a good scraper you can get a big piece off.

Just an FYI which I am pretty sure you already know, but the colors on the sticker will be nowhere near the color of what it was like 20 years ago. In addition, the stripes were based on the color of the truck, so not all were red and orange, there was a blue availible also. The stripes down the side were also smaller in width.
-
yeah i kno the colors on mine are faded but i will try to get the piece where they actaully go under the hood on the front off if i can because they arent faded that much
-
7GMCSC - i worked on trying to get those pieces off of the bottom side of my hood tonite=pita.. i got some but they arent in the greates of shape-they stickers wear very brittle- but i tried the other side and it came off in a better piece (http://img468.imageshack.us/img468/1152/05022007102742pmca0.jpg)
the dark red piece is not as discolored on the short scrappy piece as it is on the long piece-thats y included it
i can mail them to you or we can figure something out

Right!
Except two tone blue fleetside long bed Silverado with the standard Scotsdale/ Silveradoside trim.
Lt. blue: fenders, doors, box.
Dk. blue: side inset, top, hood w/stripes.
Was that some sort of Z77 Silverado or was it factory Frankenstein.
