Good afternoon! I am looking to replace the rear step bumper on my '79 C10. I found a person parting out an '82 suburban which has the style of bumper I want. Does anyone on the forum know if these a bumpers are interchangeable? Or, would any mods need to be done?
Thanks,
Marc

Bumpers are the same, frame mounts are different but available here for the 73-80 style:

The frames on the Suburban angle down having different brackets for the same bumper. I think the site owner can get the 81-87(91) style but you would have to contact him

Got it. Thanks Carl!

I did the same rear bumper conversion a couple months ago on my 87 r10. Ordered the
Bumper and brackets from this site. Fit perfect. You will get what you need.

HI Jerry,
I installed the brackets and bumper and everything bolted up properly, but it seems there is a larger than normal gap (approx. 1 1/2") between the bumper and the bed. You can easily see the brackets and to me it looks like the fit should be more snug. Are you seeing something similar with your install?
Thanks
Marc

The aftermarket brackets space them out about that much compared to OEM ones. Bought aftermarket for one of my trucks and my other truck has an OEM set up. They are similar but not identical. It's obvious when they are parked side by side.
Be careful if you have an aluminum trim panel on your tailgate. I took a block of wood and a large hammer to renegotiate a larger gap between the bumpers top edge and the trim panel when the tailgate is down. I also ended up installing new hinges just in case somebody puts the tailgate down and wants to sit on it. It just gets a little too close for me.
