Title: SBC to BBC swap
Post by: Bigwayne on August 06, 2017, 07:11:16 pm
New guy here, I can't seem to find anything on this in a search, I have a 86 GMC 2wd, I'm putting a 496 in it, need some help with motor mounts, some say the SB mounts will work or is there a BB mount I have to get, also does anyone know what headers will fit, and what radiator will work for the BB, and last, what about the water pump long or short thanks

You want the 4 core radiatior. Standard equipment for the BB equipped trucks.

Hooker headers.

Long water pump. Brackets are way easier to find.

SB mounts will work but I had an issue with my HD 7 blade fan rubbing the lower side of the fan shroud on my 4x4. BB mounts are taller and centers the fan in the shroud opening.

I am doing a similar swap except I went with a 455 Oldsmobile (torque monster) and am had header clearance issues and had to add a 1/2 spacer  for the motor mount which I fabricated to get the clearance , not a big deal
