Title: Rubber wheel covers ?
Post by: dr.ifixit on September 05, 2017, 08:21:39 am
I'm restoring my grandpa's 73 c10 , the build sticker lists the wheels as "deluxe wheel covers " which looks like that option was chrome Chevy hubcaps. I'm trying to figure out if these "rubber" wheels we're an original option or aftermarket ?they seem like they are semi-permenantly  bonded to the steel wheels.  Thank you (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170905/590c8d78204c5dac4d608894ef0cbe52.jpg)

I think those wheels are off of a mid '70's Oldsmobile Delta, they were optional on a special edition if I remember correctly so they may be worth something to somebody.

I know he bought the truck used in May of 78, whoever the first owner was could have changed the wheels/ covers I don't know if they come off , I'm going to refurbish them and keep em since my plan is to restore it back to the day he bought it

These are extremely cool to me and even resemble the current 2500 silverado HD(?) wheels?

There was/is also a GM exhibit vehicle that had these at the World's fair in the 60's or something which i don't have time to look up right now.

That is an awesome design!thanks!  Those look like the same guy designed the wheels . I've just never seen the design and Grandpa was to frugal to ever buy new wheels so it just adds to the story as to how they got there if they weren't factory .

If you Google "Oldsmobile, Super Stock IV wheels", you will see a bunch of them. Polycast is another key word you can use,

when i worked at a junkyard i ran across a set of these. from the wheel loader they looked aluminum but from memory i thought they were on a 90s small van, like a aerostar or something. was till i lifted the fan up and got out did i notice they werent really aluminum
