Title: fan shroud
Post by: Smitty31 on September 17, 2017, 04:36:26 pm
I have a 1986 custom deluxe 4.3 L vortec 2wd Automatic w/o air . The fan shroud needs to be replaced. I ordered one through summit racing   part number is gm3110101. When it came it was the wrong one  >:( Ive looked all over the web and everyone tries to sell me this same shroud. the gm 3110101 is not wide enough. As in from the radiator to where it goes over top the fan is not wide enough. please any ideas will be greatly appreciated i have looked for months with no luck. Cant find it in local junk yards either.

Hi Smitty:
Is your fan shroud a one-piece or two-piece design? Can you elaborate a little more on where the fit problems is? Does this shroud you bought look like the original one but just not have the right dimensions? Is it a two-piece design?

Maybe you can contact a Chevy dealer who has the older parts catalogs and can tell you if there was more than one design for your model truck.

*My old 76 350 fan shroud attachment screw holes were starting to break up and there was a couple of cracks and so I tried to order the right one but got the wrong one as well. Instead of repeating this hassle of returning parts I decided to repair it myself with 3M #2216 structural adhesive. Problem solved.

Good Luck,
Henry

i'm guess that it's too short----won't reach the fan----because the v-6 sits so much further than the 8.

i had the same problem and decided to go with an electric fan.  Problem solved, much more room.  Haven't looked back.

It is a two piece and thats exactly right the  new shroud wont go over the fan plus the shape is a little different. as in repairing it that wont work to many missing pieces. i will check with a chevy dealer. but welcome more comments.

Where did you get that part number? You should have a two piece fan shroud.

Great news shroud found in a junk yard in Minnesota. Found this great web site car-parts.com They are connected to salvage yards all over the US. even in Canada and Mexico. The shroud was 25 and 25 to ship it with no tax.  I have never seen so many c10's before it was awesome being able to browse all these different yards.  8)

car-parts.com the slash inbetween car and part is needed to help identify web site.

Well, if the right shroud is not available on the net parts suppliers, you are going to have to see if there are any available on junkyards that advertise on the net....and call any of your local junkyards to see if they have any 80s Chevy trucks. What about that shroud that Zieg85 offered? Are you sure you cant effect repairs on your existing ones?...are they missing big chunks or what?
Regards,
Henry

Thanks for answering henry. Big chunks where missing and zieg85 is in nw indiana. But read above I found the greatest junkyard car-part.com. Not really a yard itself but shows parts all over the US.

Hi Smitty:
Sorry, I did not see your last posts that you found some shrouds on an on-line junkyard. Hopefully it will be the right ones.
Good luck,
Henry
