Title: bed swap and fuel filler neck.
Post by: tbarsell on September 23, 2017, 02:16:55 pm
have a 77 c20 longbed 3/4 camper special with dual saddle tanks. truck got hit and ruined the bed. picked up a 73 bed to replace it.

My problem is the 73 bed has fuel doors while the 77 bed has the fuel filler neck and cap flush with the body panel. i am pretty sure that i will need to change out the fuel necks but am unsure where to find them. the   catalog doesnt show a fuel filler door option for the 73 bed. any help is appreciated.

thanks

A bed from a 1973 should  not have a fuel door.

right. tail lights are 73. so i assumed....must be a 79 or up bed. just need to get the right fuel neck and what not to make it fit the 77

73-77 had the round hole so if you bought a bed with the gas door, then get the appropriate hardware for a bed with the door.

I swapped an '81 bed onto my '75, and had to get the fuel filler pipes and hoses from a newer bed with a fuel door.  Original tanks worked fine.

You can still buy the filler pipe parts new, but last time I checked they were much pricier than I expected.  It was much cheaper to get what I needed from the pick and pull.

Be careful if ya go to the salvage yards. The 78-87 fuel filler hoses are a different diameter than the 73-77.

The link below has additional information on the fuel filler hoses.
