Title: Sway bar
Post by: Smitty31 on October 02, 2017, 03:14:28 pm
I want to add a sway bar to my 86 C10. My question is who carries a good one and will instructions come with it. Some type of drawing swing how to install it.

The factory sway bar is a good option.

Do you mean from a junkyard I would imagine the factory one would be costly? Also is their some kind of drawing showing you how to install

Hi again Smitty:
There are quite a few suppliers of sway bars and associated hdwr out there. My advice is that you buy the bar, bushings, and saddle clamps all from the same source as a branded kit. I have a factory 1-1/16 dia bar on my 76 C-20 that was heck trying to find the bushings that fit the oem saddle clamps recently: various mfg bushings fit the bar but not the clamps (see my high jinx in the suspension forum). There were at least 3 different diameter front sway bars available on the 73-87 3 trucks and I believe the 1-1/16 was the smallest.

Another thing to check: does your truck already have the sway bar brackets attached to the frame?...if not, you will have to get these installed and they are not typically part of a sway bar kit.

Some new sway bars come with solid polyurethane bushings instead of the original style rubber bushings...I cannot comment on if these are better or not or what their selling feature is.

Regards,
Henry

Belltech makes a sway bar package for the front and back.
Belltech 9908 to be exact.  Instructions do come with the package and they will leave you scratching your brain a little bit,  but can easily be figured out for the most part.

I'll try to dig up the info.  I just recently purchased the kit for my 87 R10.  It was a time trying to find something for my truck also.  Let me get back to ya on this.

I posted the info found on the belltech website.  Not sure if you will be able to see the picture but the 9908 will also work for the 86 custom.  I installed it about two months ago and I'll say that it's a night and day difference in the handleing of my truck.  Handles like a corvette now. Haha!!
But anyway good luck with it!!
