Title: Tail Light Socket Assembly Removal
Post by: srozell on October 24, 2017, 05:31:30 pm
Working on a 1980 K20, left rear signal socket.

I suspect my tail light socket is the source of my problems, so I want to put a meter on the wires. The only problem is that I can't figure out how to pull the two wires that go into the center of the socket. (The one on the side pulled out easy enough).

Is there a trick to this, or do I need to just pull harder?

Well, I couldn't figure it out, so I just went and bought a new one, and of course all the wires were attached, so I just cut and soldered the new wires in place.

Everything works wonderful now.

I had the same problem and used the same solution.
I spent part of last winter rebuilding the engine bay, forward lighting, rear lighting, and fuel tank harnesses. I admittedly got a little OCD with the entire process, particularly when it came to tracking down the correct Delphi connectors and wire colors. I also very much wanted to avoid any soldering in any of the wires so I looked and looked for just the bulb-contact terminals for the rear, side, and turn signal sockets. No luck.
