Title: Timing Issue.....I think.
Post by: Rapid Roy on October 28, 2017, 07:14:31 pm
74 C10 350 TH350. Stock (original) engine. Upgraded OEM points distributor to HEI. I removed coil, cap and wires. Turned harmonic balancer mark to 0. Checked where rotor was pointing before removing old dist. It was pointing to #6 plug. From info I have found, it should point to #1. Installed HEI and set rotor to point to #1 and would hardly run with dist turned all way counter clockwise. Is this a timing issue with cam and crank?

did you start it then turn the distributor by hand to see if you could find a spot where it ran good? at least to keep it running while you time it with the light

If you didn't rotate the crankshaft another full revolution and left everything the way you took it apart, then you put the distributor in 180° off. You should have put the distributor in pointing at #6 if that was where you removed it. You were on TDCC #6 cylinder.
