Title: Finally got Ol' Yeller
Post by: ryanc on October 29, 2017, 12:44:21 pm
Hey guys,

Im new to the site and new to square body ownership.  I recently inherited the truck Ive wanted for 30 years from my grandfather.  Its a 1984 C10 longbed 2WD 305 auto with less than 60k on the clock.  The truck was my grandfathers when he worked for the highway department in Maine, hence the color.  When he retired, the department gave him the truck as a retirement present. It was pretty much only used to run to the dump and to launch his boat. After his passing, my dad surprised me with the keys. I took a flight with my girlfriend to Maine and drove the truck back to Florida, making stops in Boston, NYC, DC, and a few other spots along the journey. I bought the cap for it to haul some stuff back.

Been daily driving the truck for a few months now and absolutely love it. I have plans to lower the truck in the next few months, and I have a 5.3/4l60e in the garage that Ill be taking my time going thru and building.  ;D

I spent some time with a D/A buffer and got the paint looking good. Put a before/after pic of the hood at the bottom

At the bottom, thats me in around 1992 ish watching her get hauled away when the tranny went out

Boy!  "Yellow" doesn't even begin to describe the color!  It should be... YELLOW!!  It's purdy!!!   :)

Welcome to the site from Central California!

Thanks, Ill check out the FB thing soon.

Just curious where the truck came from/how you got it?
What it was used for?
How'd it end up yellow? And was that a factory color? Special order?
And any other fun info you may have about it.

I got it from a guy in Flint, MI answered an add on Craigslist.  It was originally a pale yellow with white 2 tone and when the previous owner had the body restored painted it the 2004 Corvette yellow.  This was a conversion when new originally a radio delete C30 Custom Deluxe 5.7L TH400 and a 4.56 rear gear posi  w/AC and it was ordered by what I believe to be Sante Fe RR.  This truck rode the tracks on inspection duty and the PO got it from auction in 1994 after the RR stuff was taken off.
