Is the fly wheel the same for a 700r4 as the turbo 400. i'm doing a swap right now and i stuck the r4 up there and there is about a 1/4 inch gap between the torque convertor and the flywheel.

Technically the flywheel matches the engine/crankshaft. The torque converter matches the flywheel and the transmission matches the block. Is it the factory flywheel? Will the TH400 bolt up properly? Can the converter not be pushed forward to meet the flywheel?

What size flywheel do you have for the 400? There are two sizes. 153 and 168 i think its 168 but you can tell by how the starter mounts if the tranny is still in the truck. The 400 has the big flywheel and the 700 is the small one but it depends on the bolt pattern on the torque convertor.

got the problem fixed. just had to use a couple shims to get the spacing right. thanks for the input tho.

I have never seen shims between the converter and the flywheel out of all the Chevy trucks I have owned.
-
Neither have I. Why did it have to be shimmed, the converter should pull forward to meet the flywheel.
