Title: Brothers first ride 79 c10
Post by: jpizzle440 on November 23, 2017, 05:58:00 pm
Picked this up for 400$ when I was trying to decide what to do with the crate motor and trans out of my orange truck. Heck of a deal. All the suspension was done, guy had stripped it for racing, luckily not everything was missing. Hood is brand new but they guy didn't paint it. Bed is in decent shape too. We pulled the dash and tested all the circuitry. Chased every sensor for continuity to the dash. Got all new a/c components, had to drop the inner fender to get to the lower bolts/nuts on a/c box. Did all of the interior. Now she's going back together.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171123/61151c4cdb38c337bd29ca7fd529abcc.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171123/e046a09c389e6ed5c34882bcc79ef4c2.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171123/423522ff29bdca7188c25ffe5508dd05.jpg)

Used a 5/32 tig wire to fix seat spring. We do all of our own boat upholstery, we have several jet boats. First time we have done anything for a vehicle. Come out nice.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/56ac1853b1fa2b81310a31e31f938a6c.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/b3e2a01631881b2f83981ef2bd4a15bc.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/ef6e326739b1bd7454bbafe25a9fae3e.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/5809054ff98a975a2ea92b39e4cf0240.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/2b84f7f6ab3aab98d4c1d53e99663034.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/71c729b487143bae8117e5d4a36950ab.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/e7d1b85c45db2ce57f5289dd019cfc6b.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/8fb58ee154d18b7b443dc7c07af84e8c.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/901a524366a27f608a76659d091c00ea.jpg)

More panels. Went and got a system. Played around on the embroidery machine. He wants pantera on his door panels. Made simple panel to hold rear speakers.  (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/c81c4be2f3d02eaeda039880bd4719e5.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/53887f81a6a64e9ec1b20fd5805e2397.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/3202abacd61be9f95da6966d061df0d5.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/0d73791340bb622d37a554d81df63c2b.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/dfefb1de45b95998649260cbd10294bb.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/78e70a75b5fc59cdc55a0adb7b1192fc.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/b27d4dc450bf9b61b8e91d98a46ef04b.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/94f9deb4d450b73aa0c5bad902bf75b9.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171124/2b59d00ca62ac091e3995bc273927dac.jpg)

Cut small peice of aluminium to secure speakers. Get better pictures as he finish wiring. Got one more piece of carpet after he finished with that seat goes in. Something I forgot. We tried some left over stretch marine vinyl on his dash we had left over from a jet ski seat. Bad idea. Glue would not hold it. Tried 3m 92, and contact cement. Landau cement might have worked but it was too late so we yanked it of and had just enough seat material to recover it.

Good job on the dash pad. I have a couple that were saved from the trash can in the hopes of “bringing them back” someday. New ones are very expensive.

Thanks, I been wanting to do one for a long time. Always wanted to do leather but I think my next one will be vinyl. I'm afraid they won't last long in this texas heat. I'm going to wait until we install this one to see how it fits with the foam we put on it.

He's a little slow messing with the truck. Got the seat in last week. New wiper motor. He's working the door panels again. Making custom wood arm rests at the moment.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171216/6fc9f1e4fcf8d3297dfbf0c7c875ff3b.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171216/edea34fc36660993d963a4ac88be4b9f.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171216/a7f00d0686cc7f2ff6d31c9e2d062cc1.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171216/1245c62ad086aa0d779ee13d03e63775.jpg)

Picked up a fan switch and dash bezel at the local pick and pull today. I had bought hime everything new except that switch. Put it in and all works good now. Mounted the dash bezel and custom speaker bezel. Kind of a cheesy way of mounting it but it's tight and looks good. Just got to trim the bolts down. If he don't want a glare from the sun he can take it apart and paint it later. Just need to locate a passenger side vent. Not sure if he wants to get some defrost inserts or leave it like it is. Didn't do much over the holidays. Got the panel on the driver side. Found a vent for the far passenger side. The directional vent in the housing was messed up but I had a spare and replaced it. Had some rubber squares on each end when I took it apart. I image this is why they won't stay in position after they wear out. Put them back in and worked fine. Now I know what to do to fix them in the future. Pulled her in the shop and put new hinges and bushings on the passenger door. Forgot to take pics of that. Just put a floor jack under the door and got it off and on myself. Finally tracked down some sport mirrors at a junk yard today for $25. Everywhere I looked online wanted about $30 a pop new. None of my other squares have these. So not sure if I would like them but that's what style come on this truck. Bought some heated mirrors for another truck and I like them. Got to install the radio, replace all the weather stripping on the doors, replace the fuel tank, replace driver side hinges and bushings, line up the doors and fenders, put the front end on and she will be finished. Not going to do any body work until he gets good at driving. No sense in it in case he hits something. The arm rest come out good was pretty easy to make. Traced pattern of the original, counter sunk the screw holes and bolted on perfect. Not sure if we will clear it, paint or stain it. Still have to make the passenger side. May do this to some of my other trucks, it's more sturdy and looks better. Probably way easier than attempting to cover with vinyl.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/5dfe9d750cb5e8de8dd00842b7e9ed65.jpg)

So I didn't realize it when I pulled this motor out of the other truck. When it was wrecked, the tab on the oil sensor broke off in the wire connection. When I was at the parts store they said this smaller single prong style is what it called for on a 79. I hooked it up and the gauge reads low with key on and pegs out high in run position. I'm currently soldering a wire to the bell style that was on it in the 86 truck. I'm not sure if the gauges get different signals from different style sensors over the years. Any input if anyone has come across this issue. Hopefully this other one works. I tested the wires and printed circuit before I put all of it back together, all checked good. Canister is sending unit. Small one is a switch. You need the sending unit for the gauge.

Finished soldering the bell type sensor up and installed. It hangs out steady just above the 3/4 Mark on the oil guage. Not sure why they sold me the other style. It obviously isn't the correct one. Killed the ignition and turned key back on and it hits the half mark and slowly goes to zero position so I'd say it works without checking with a mechanical guage.

What is the switch used for? I know I have one on my jet boat thats 2 pronged for a safety kill, but it's set up different. Would that be the same style switch but just single instead of 2 prongs?

An on off switch to ground vs a pass through switch which opens and closes a circuit
