Title: Happy 1987 V10 Owner
Post by: Combat Veteran on December 08, 2017, 07:35:06 am
Glad to be here. Picked up this very nice 1987 4x4 from a fellow local. Here is the truck pictured at the same dealership where it was bought 30 years ago.

Thank you for the welcome folks. Unfortunately I am battling an oil leak from the top of the engine. Just had the intake manifold and valve covers off in order to replace the gaskets. Leak is worse now than before. Not as happy as I was yesterday.

Use the UV dye and special flashlight in the kit from the auto parts store wash everything good with brake parts cleaner or something
And put the dye in and run it a few
Minutes
You may need to wait till after dark to use the special flashlight but it will usually show the leak

I was able to locate the last of my oil leaks. After replacing the intake manifold gasket, rear main seal, valve cover gaskets, transfer case driveshaft seal, double gasket on the distributor, the last pain was the oil pressure unit on the top by the distributor was leaking up through the threads. A few wraps of Teflon tape finally got it leak free.
