Title: detent?
Post by: markzepp820 on March 07, 2006, 02:54:00 am
from what i hear, the th400 uses a detent solenoid to control the kickdown. Its a wire that leads from the tranny to the gas pedal with a 12 volt current. Does the detent just control kickdown passing gear only, or do the modualtor and detent work together?

The vacuum modulator is for shifting and the kickdown is ran by the solenoid.

But that's still a good question- I would think they have to work together for proper passing gear.
BTW, one way you can check for a bad modulator is to remove the vac line and turn it (modulator) to see if any tranny fluid comes out. If it does, the modulator has a bad diaphram.
