Title: Transmission filter spacer
Post by: Jon87V20 on January 20, 2018, 11:52:39 pm
I changed out my transmission filter today and after I finished buttoning the whole thing up, I noticed that cylindrical spacer that goes between the filter and valve body sitting on the ground next to the old filter. Then I had set it on the bumper while I was cleaning up and it disappeared... doh.

I'm wondering what it's function is, and can I get away with leaving it out. I realize GM put it in there for reason. Just wondering if it's essential to normal operation. I'm not trying to lazy about it, it just sucks because I had to do that out in the cold and rain today and don't really want to do it again right now.

Thanks, guys.

EDIT: This is a '87 Suburban V20 with TH400 with deep pan.

You need to put it back in. The filter will drop from the pickup tube without it.

Ok. Darn. If I can’t find it out there in the driveway, can I use washers to take up the 4 inches needed there?

4" ? The long spacer is about an inch for deep pans. Whatchoo talkin bout Willis? Just cut a piece of steel line an inch long and you'll be fine.
