Title: Binding when turning right after breaking.
Post by: MrFiveOh on March 15, 2018, 10:45:58 am
So i noticed recently upon decelerating (using brakes) and making a right hand turn my steering seems to bind while making a right hand turn. Its as if it hits a notch or loses power steering momentarily. once it reaches a certain point in the turn it works as normal, it doesn't prevent me from continuing to turn its just at a certain point ( about 4 inches from center) during a right hand turn it catches or something. There's no leak, pump and box are fairly new (about 1-1.5 years old) No noise either.  If i dont brake, theres no issue, left hand turns are a non issue as well.

You need to carefully inspect the front end. Make sure tie rod sleeve bolts aren't hitting if it's lowered. Check the calipers, hoses and wheel bearings as well.

It is lowered, however this just started to happen and its been lowered for quite sometime now. It only happens when i brake while coming to a turn or if i hold on to the brake, let go and then turn my steering wheel to the right. If i dont brake its a non issue. This leads me to believe its the gearbox possibly. but thats why i posted here.

Unless you have hydroboost it should have no correlation to the brakes

i know its not the same issue completely but on my 02 it only had power steering when turning left and turning right there was no assist at all. replaced the gear box and it fixed the issue.

Thats crazy, When i turn its not the entire right turn, its a sliver, I start to turn it stops as if power steering stopped working, i turn it more and it turns.

What's the condition of the P/S fluid and what type of fluid are you using?

You are saying it only does it if you apply the brakes right?

Correct, Fluid is good im using ATF. Ill apply brake while turning and it will happen. Also if i creep forward and depress the brake and turn right i can feel it catch slightly. That makes me think gearbox
