So the previous owner must have lost the key and not bothered to change the lock cylinder. The wired in a new key and stuffed it into the dash.
I've replaced the lock cylinder, and the rod seems to be connected correctly. My question comes for part numbers for the ignition switch connectors. Looks like i need two, but cant seem to find exactly what i need. The plastic plugs, pigtails, or harness (whatever you want to call them) are completely gone.
Any help?

You can look them up by application and cross reference the numbers

Now I have to figure out what the heck the PO did with the wiring.
He put in a generic key switch with 3 terminals IG, SOL, and Bat
IG - two connections
thick pink wire
Brown/white, orange, brown, blk/white, purple/blue
SOL - Purple/blue
Bat - both Red Wires
From the main harness
Brown/white
Orange (thick)
Brown (thick)
Blk/white
Red (thick)
Red (thick)
Purple/blue (thick)
Pink (thick)
Tips on how to correct this mess and get it wired correctly?

What year model truck are we discussing? Go to the GM manuals (http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=30115.0) section of the site and click on the appropriate year wiring manual.

I would lower the column and make the connections to the switch, solder and heat shrink your connections to the harness. Make sure you leave enough slack to loom the wires and raise the column.

that is the plan... the column is already down and the second plug/connector should be in today. but I'm less than positive as to which wire goes on which pin.
ive found a few diagrams that seem close, but none that give me total confidence.
