Title: To torque or not to torque
Post by: Smitty31 on April 11, 2018, 10:03:47 pm
1986 c10  2wd  4.3 v6 automatic. Should the nuts on the front spindle be torqued if so how much. Or just tighten till theres a slight drag back off and insert cotter pin.

These are the steps for my '75
- Tighten spindle nut to 12 ft lbs while spinning the wheel by hand to full seat the bearings and push out excess grease
- Back off the nut , to the "just loose" position
- Hand "snug up" the spindle nut
- Back off the nut until the slot lines up with the hole in the spindle (but not more than 1/2 flat)
- Insert cotter pin.
- Measure looseness of the hub. It should be .001-.005 inches end play.
