how many turns out is it for a carter quadrajet in a 79' C20 350, th400? And it is stock. thanks

Turn it 2 1/2 turns from all the way in.  This will give you a good starting place and, in my case, was exactly where it supposed to be.

two and a half turns is a good starting point as the Sarge said, but to make sure, bring the engine up to operating temp, disconnect the vacuum advance and plug the vac source, adjust slowly in till you get the highest idle RPM. If the idle doesn't come up then bring her out till you get the highest idle. Don't go beyond your high idle point, after it's where it needs to be, reconnect the vac advance and idle it back down to 800 revs I believe. From there your set and ready to roll.

Is this the same for Edelbrock Performer carbs?  Mine keeps dying in the morning.  It dies twice, always, then it runs fine.  I know the vaccuum advance is not working.

I'm running an Edelbrock on my 350 and have never had any real issues with it. Check the mixture setting on the choke spring cover( I can't remember the right name for it ). You can turn it clockwise to richen choke mixture or counterclockwise to lean the choke mixture.

Are you sure about that? I think you may have it backwards. As you turn the adjusting screws out, it richens the fuel mix. Turning them in leans it .

Talkin about the choke spring cover there guys, not the mixture screws. The cover has dash marks on it going from lean one side to rich on the other. At least thats the way my Edelbrock is.

OOPs, my bad. Thanks for the correction, Tater. I WAS indeed thinkin about the idle mixture screws.
