Title: Washer fluid pump question
Post by: 1911fan on May 09, 2018, 07:43:05 pm
Buddy of mine pulled this off a 78 1 ton. Trying to put it on my 78 3/4 ton. Assume it's an aftermarket? The power supply to the wiper motor is different. Also seems to have an extra plug on the original? Anyway to make this thing work? The original leaks from the washer pump and sprays fluid whenever the wiper motor is running.

The one in your hand is from a 77 down truck. Just get a reman unit, used ones are hit or miss.

You can also just buy a washer pump repair kit, or just a washer pump.

Hi eh:
The original pump/motor assemblies were supplied by AC Delco division of GM.  The design for the assembly changed a couple of times over the production run of 73-87. I also believe the assembly for a truck with intermittent wipers is different and not interchangeable with one for non-intermittent wipers. This auto parts store called Advance Auto Supply had two styles for my 76 truck and so I had them order both and then took my assembly to the store to compare wiring and fluid ports. One was a AC Delco and the other was aftermarket...I bought the aftermarket as it looked like the original AC Delco that came on the truck(pictures in service manual)...and was cheapest price I could find.
