Hey guys I have an 87 R10. My fuel filter went out one day so I swapped it out with a new one and the pick up fired right up and continued to run/drive fine for a few hours until it randomly killed while idling. I've replaced the fuel filter again, fuel pump, fuel tank selector valve, fuel pump relay, and have even tried hooking jumper cables to the battery incase it wasn't getting enough power but I still can not get the pump to turn on. I'm stumped.

have you checked your fuses? (ecm 2, if memory serves me right should be it)

What makes you think your issue is fuel delivery? Hook up a fused jumper wire from B+ to the pigtail on the fuel pump relay. This will turn the pump on.
-
also did you ever mess with the fuel selector switch in the dash? but stop throwing parts at it (not sure much is left to replace) listen to vile and we'll get your truck running again
-
As far as replacing the switch on the dash no but I figure that will be the next thing to replace. Also, I know it's fuel related because I've disconnected both fuel lines from the TBI and can't get fuel to come out. Also, can't hear fuel pump turn on.

Ok I'll give it a shot in the morning and let y'all know what happens. Thanks btw

When you say go from the battery + to the relay pigtail. What am I splicing into exactly on the pigtail? Is there a reference? I've tried youtubing it and I've got nothing

There is a fuel prime wire coming off of your relay. It should be a red wire and is only a few inches long with a connector on the end of it. That wire is an override to the signal wire coming from the ECM to control the fuel pump relay. If you jumper that, it will make the fuel pumps run.
-
Right on, thank you. If that works then what does it mean as far as what I'll have to do to fix the problem?

The test will indicate on which side of the fuel pump relay (control circuit or fuel pump feed) the failure is. Install a temporary, 20-amp fused jumper between battery positive and the red pigtail off the F/P relay.
-
If the pump runs with the fused wire connected to the jumper terminal, the wiring to the pump and the pump itself are good. You would check fuses and the fusible link on the firewall.
-
The red wire is where you supply fused power. The relay is on the passenger side firewall. The other 2 pictures are the fusible link that needs to be checked. It supplies power to the fuse box. The 16 means it's a 16 gauge fusible link. It's hard to see but the lighter color wire (the fusible link) is melted.

So I finally said oh well and brought it to a shop because I have no time to work on it anymore, they turned me down because it's not the "original motor" or original computer, So now I called another place that said they would work on it for me. Lol what a headache

"not original"? what motor do you have?

...they turned me down because it's not the "original motor" or original computer...
Business must be so good they can just turn people away. Please let us know what it turns out to be. I'm dealing with a similar issue, which might involve the selector switch previously mentioned in this post.

It's the 350 tbi, they're just being stupid. People are so dang lazy these days.

Lol yeah it's probably better they turned you away then to try and work on your truck, they might have replaced the transmission to fix your issue
-
Did you ever jump the relay via the red wire?
-
So... lol, I took it to a different shop. The guy calls me 2 hours later and says he's got it running great! I get there and he tell me he pulled the ignition fuse out (which I checked a few times
) and it didn't look bad to him but for heck of it he tested it anyway and it turned out to be bad. Then he plugged a new one in and the truck still wouldn't start so he shines a flashlight in the fuse plug, it's corroded, he cleaned it up and plugged the new fuse in and she fired right up. A little embarrassing but hey it's my first project truck and I'm glad I learned from a small thing like that! Hopefully any of y'all with truck problems get as lucky as me and have a simple fix. Thanks for all of your input!
