Title: UGH.....Lost Keys
Post by: devildogmech on May 27, 2018, 09:44:14 pm
So,
I've lost the keys to my 79' C-10..... If I cant find em' I'm going to have to replace the lock cylinder.

Does anyone know of a walk through on how to do it?

I did a google search, but all I get are for newer vehicles....

Buy a new lock cylinder and key set and then you need to remove the steering wheel along with all of the components below including the turn signal switch. From there you can access the lock cylinder release which depending on the column you have is an easy process but varies by design. Is the column original and correct for your truck? Just refer to the procedure in the factory service manual for your truck. You will need a lock plate depressor and steering wheel puller to get to it.

try a locksmith not the hardware store, locksmith should be able to make you keys, the guy we use at work says i could even bring him a lock cylinder and get a key made from that
