Title: Throttle/Kickdown bracket bolt size/specs?
Post by: klittl06 on June 29, 2018, 08:03:33 pm
Hi All,

I just got my hands on a 76 C10 Silverado with a sbc 350 and th350.  Overall it's in pretty solid shape, but the previous owner did some odd things.

Anyway, the throttle/kickdown bracket is missing one for the bolts that secure the bracket.  I can't seem to find any info on it searching online or in the service manual.

Does anyone know what what spec/size bolt I need?

Thanks,
Kyle  :D

depending on the bracket and how it's mounted, 5/16-18 or 5/16-24 or 3/8-16

pics would help

Where is the bracket mounted?

On my '75 K25 with 350/TH350 the TH350 kickdown bracket is bolted to the last two bolts for the intake manifold, and my throttle bracket is bolted to the rear two bolts on the Quadrajet.  I'd have to look up the sizes, but both of these are very standard bolts.

FYI - The 2nd to last bolt on the intake (and several other intake bolts) has to be sealed with RTV to prevent oil seepage.  The last bolt on the back of the intake is into a blind hole and does not require sealant.

You should also check the adjustment on the TH350 kickdown when you reinstall it, since midadjustment may make it not downshift properly.  The procedure is to:
- Pull up on the small tab on the top of the cable grommet/end, which releases the cable adjustment
- Then manually pull the carburetor to full throttle so that it fully extends the kickdown cable
- Then push the tab back down to lock it again

Hey All,

Thanks for all the feedback and welcomes!

Here's a link to a couple photos - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-SNiOlDHfiiSgoHDgPNocEufvBelhMmp?usp=sharing

As you can probably tell, I've got a lot to do (hopefully in time).  I'm looking to get her driving and inspected before digging too deep into things.  The kickdown cable definitely needs to be adjusted, it's not even attached to the carb at the moment  ::).

And thanks for the info, I'll check out those intake manifold bolts!

Thanks again!

What is this bracket's purpose?

That bracket is for the AC compressor.

I still need that bolt for the kickdown bracket but I've realized that I either have the wrong bracket or wrong cable.  I'm probably going to push this aside until the truck passes inspection.

Could be the wrong throttle/ kick down  bracket.

Should be one piece bracket across the 2 rear bolts on the carb. Search for quadrajet parts online to find the correct stud for the throttle linkage. The kick-down just slides over the lower inner stud on the throttle linkage then adjust the kick down as in previous post.

Thanks for the clear pic.

Something definitely off with mine. As it sits the black plastic at the end of the kickdown cable makes it too long.

I added a picture the album above.

Any ideas?  The PO was rather creative from what I've seen so far...

There is a different  bracket for the Kick down as well. It also holds plug wires and has a hole in it for the brake booster line to pass through.

Can’t say where that bracket came from on yours.

I run vortex heads so I can’t use the stock kick down bracket so no pic.
If I find it I’ll take a pic of it. Hard to say what I did with it.

The Performer 2101 will accept the original kick down bracket if you get one.

When you get it all together and you set your kick down adjustment have someone hold the pedal to the floor to get a more correct setting.

Awesome info!

I've been digging some. I added another picture to the album of what I think might be the stock bracket. Would you mind taking a look?

Besides that I think the Edelbrock 8036 might be able to work although it's very different that what I found.

Thanks

That bracket looks a little more complicated than mine but couldn’t say.

The EDL universal goes every which way but have no experience with it.

I used a spectra kick down bracket in combination with my own creation.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180730/250888dab3a09ecee230ecf81cbd3f77.jpg)

Thanks for digging and sharing!

I guess there was a separate throttle cable bracket.  I'll see what I can find locally, I'll try the EDL 8036 if nothing turns up.
