Well, I've never really ran the 250 hard since I bought it... I always thought it was a bit pimpsy so earlier I was gagging on it and noticed anything out of first gear I get a chatter at full throttle. If I don't give it full throttle it's fine. The only time I can really mash it is in 1 up to 2, but not into 3rd.. Muncie transmission, any clue on what to check? I'm thinking of changing the plugs and distributor cap/button + wires soon. I think it could be the gas too, or the timing.. I tried fooling with the timing a bit this afternoon but it didn't help much.  Any suggestions are welcome!

Chatter?  When i think of that, i think of clutch/pressureplate/throwout bearing

Does it seem like it is coming from motor or drive train/ tranmission?

How old is your clutch disc / pressure plate?  You don't want to put too many hot spots on fly wheel or you wont be able to turn it anymore.

I am assuming you are referring to valve knocking.  It's called detonation or pinging. If so,
One word, timing.

Retard your timing a tad.  turn distributor a tad clockwise--to retard the spark just a hair. Then see what happens.  

Try a higher octane and see if that stops the problem.
