Jay is right. push those bad boys down throught the bottom. I have honed the bores to get rid of the top lip of the bores after the pistons have been removed.
If you are getting the block bored .30 over or .40 over of whatever, you dont' need to hone it.

If the rings have worn the cylinder significantly you may have to ream the top ridge in order to get the piston out. If there is much of a ridge the the rings will catch when you try to remove them. - Mr Diesel

you cannot remove all the pistons from the crank side of the block... If I remember correctly Only #1 and #8 can be removed this way... Chris Lucas
