I'm thinking of swapping my engine in my '80 K20. It's going to be my keeper truck, so I am hoping to put the best set up possible. I'm not looking to go off-roading, mudding, or rock climbing. I want to just have a great reliability, power, and torque. It currently has a 383 stroker with a 400 turbo xmsn. It feels sluggish after tuning, carb adjustment, and more (not including rebuild).
Right now I have the opportunity to get a 427 or a 454. No matter what I choose, the engine I get, or the 383, will be rebuilt. Just getting the feel of what you all think about this, seeing how this is my first full project.
Thanks for the help!

What gear ratio and tire size are you running?

I’m not too sure on the ratio, either a 4.10 or 4.56. I’m running 37” tires on 16.5” wheels.

I’d get another mechanic to look at it
It’s hard to find some one who is good at carb jetting and setting the curve in the distributor
A 383 should be plenty powerful
