I know this topic has been discussed before, but as more people fix these trucks I am curious if one company makes replacement body parts that are standing out for better quality? I know nothing is gonna beat OE but I'd rather have a fresh start.

Thanks Vile, I have been lurking for too long on this site, I figure the parts have to be dang decent if they are offered on here but I wanted to double check.

When I lived in San Antonio there was a local place called Crash Parts (now out of business) and it was really easy to just go over and pick up fenders, hood, etc. I know they were Chinese-made knockoffs, but they were way cheaper than NOS GM parts. IIRC, I bought fenders for about $50 each, and a hood for about $120, and then had a local body shop install them and repaint the whole truck. I don't know if that type of parts place exists anywhere else, but I wish I could find one on the East Coast.

Yeah
The Chinese parts are really really poor quality
And require a lot of adjusting to make em look even halfway decent
Finding a good used factory panel is the best thing if you can find em
I used the Taiwan parts on a wrecked 4 runner that i bought at an auction
They weren’t even close to matching
The slope of the top of the fender where it meets the hood was way off
We got the car for super cheap and were planning on driving the wheels off of it so I just had Maaco slap
Some paint on the fender and hood

IM going to look at some OEM pieces this weekend that look to be in good shape. Cheaper than the China ones to boot.

OEM ones were shot, gonna wing it and try some AMD parts from Summit. Paying for freight shipping anywhere else is killing me.

sorry if this is a super newb question... I need to redo the quarter panels on my suburban. I live in the dry southwest where stuff doesn’t rust (except for mine I guess was used down by a river) there are good quarters on junkyard trucks and on Craigslist. I’ve never really done bodywork besides a little sheet metal work helping my buddy at a hot rod shop 6 years ago. I can weld and have a good amount of experience welding all kinds of stuff just not much body work. My question is could I go and cut quarters out of a existing burb and use them as patch panels? Would they be better then the cheap replacement stuff? If of corse not wreaked. I don’t care about getting stuff super pretty it’s a off road hunting truck. I just don’t want holes in the panels. What do you guys think? Cheers

you have to do this with certain parts like the "A" pillars and around the windshield. but the amount of time you have to take to cut out each spot weld and remove it will prob outweigh the cost savings
