Title: 81-87 Tailgate Band Retrofit ?

 I need a perfect tailgate band for my '77 Silverado and they seem to be unobtainium.   can I retrofit my '77 backing assembly to an '81 up reproduction band ? 

 Has anyone tried this or do you think it can be done?

77 style is available aftermarket. Not sure where you are looking but they make em...

I found the narrow ones but nobody has the wide early style.   the pre 1981 looks to be about the same size as the post 1981 ,  but it won't fit the early tailgates because the dish in the center is smaller.

 I found an NOS one for an oh my God amount of money.  I'm seriously considering it.
