Just had engine rebuilt, the truck is an 85, but has a tbi engine, thinking 87, but not sure. It is a 305. It runs good, when it runs. It always starts right up even in the cold, however it randomly cuts off. It it doesn't sputter or nothing. It just dies. It starts right back up when I turn the key. Not sure what is going on? Any ideas? It has a new fuel pump.

As in the engine stalls only? No other systems are affected?
-
It is like the engine just shuts off. Like you just turn the car in but don't crank it..
-
Possibly one of the coil wires is pinched, or the coil ground strap is absent.
-
Dumb question here. Where would the coil ground strap be located?
-
on top of the coil pack if its on the distributor but yours should be mounted to the intake and it should be grounded through the mount
-
So is it a TBI system or a TBI engine, carbureted?
-
I am not 100% sure. The person that just rebuilt the engine said he believes it is a tbi engine. It was my grandpa's who passed away a few years ago. It didn't run for years, I got it after he passed away and I am trying to fix it up. Is there sure way to tell?

Open the hood, take off the air cleaner and post a pic.
