So what is the cheap way to go on heads best bang for the buck. port polish the stock heads? vortec? after market heads?
I saw on the TV show Trucks, they where doing a top end kit from Summit with the vortec heads, but it was almost as much as a crate motor.
I got a crate motor in my sons truck and is 290hp with stock heads. Any insight on heads and why they cost so much?

The cheapest way is to modify stock heads. Find some with 2.02 in 1.60ex valves, eliminate your rotators, multi angle valve job, porting and polishing, correct valve springs, have a machine shop drill and tap them for screw in studs and guide plates and top them with a good set of roller rockers.
