Title: When to torque control arm bushings
Post by: JohnnyPopper on April 14, 2020, 11:13:33 pm
So the '80's front end is together, about to land the engine and get her off her high horse.

I used Energy Poly bushing, along with that God-awful goo grease.

Is there an optimal position to perform the final torque?

I've replaced too many back 40 years ago in the front end shop I worked, and still remember the center sleeve teeth locking between the shaft and the end cap/washer. There was an optimal position that I have forgotten.

The poly's are baffling as they not only don't lock, but are greased up.

I'm sure there's a theory, it just escapes me.

Thanks!

With polyurethane bushings it doesn't make any difference for the reasons you already mentioned.  Vulcanized rubber bushings are best tightened with the wheels sitting on horizontal ground and the vehicle normally weighted with the suspension settled at its neutral ride height.
