Title: Adding another to the collection. 1989 K30
Post by: Mr Diesel on May 04, 2020, 04:04:56 pm
Added another to my collection the other day. 1989 K30 with a TBI 454 / SM465.
It's been sitting in a back yard for years. Probably parked when something went wrong with the engine. Spark plugs and timing cover have been removed but nothing obviously wrong otherwise so I'm guessing whoever tried to fix it had no idea what they were doing and gave up.
My wife wasn't too happy about me adopting another, but I pay the bills around here!
I referenced this truck recently in a different post. Saw it sitting in back yard and made the guy an offer ($800). He seemed to lose interest or was busy with other things and months went by before he got back with me about it. Don't need it, but I can't pass on another K30!
Just gonna sit by my barn for years right now. Got too many square body projects ahead of it. Eventually I think I'll do an aluminum flatbed and rebuild that 454.
My current pics are too big to attach from my phone but I'll shrink some down and add soon.

Shrunk a picture down and added. Also deciphered most of the RPO codes in the glove box using a couple online decoders:

I have no idea what it is (exactly) about a regular cab K30 dually.  But, whenever I see one, my eyes are instantly drawn to it and I am instantly in love.

Very nice truck, Mr. D.

Are you keeping the box, or going back to a bed?  Either way...  :-X

Eventually go to a flatbed. This is a cab and chassis model with the narrower dual wheels and frame, so a standard bed won't bolt up. The utility bed on it is pretty much garbage at this point so it will go to the scrap yard.

Standard flatbed, or do you plan to do something unique?

The flatbed will be pretty standard aluminum, but I have a more unique idea for a camper that can mount to the flatbed (similar to a bed slide-in).

Here is a link with some neat pictures that I am going to steal for ideas when I get to building it.

This is one of the reasons for going aluminum flatbed (to save some overall weight so I can go heavier on the camper). I'm going to build my own camper because I can't afford even the base price in that link above, but I can build a nice one with all new material from Lowes for not too much.
