Title: Normal way of engine cables
Post by: ChrisD on May 14, 2020, 12:24:39 am
Hi,
I‘m a little confused about the engine electric, because some of them are on the left side along the engine, not really far from the exhaust manifold,
Is this the normal cableway?
Are there normally Plates or something over the exhaust?
I don‘t think it‘s too good for the isolation when it‘s grilled every time in the heat of the exhaust.

Regards

Chris

Hi,, Electric engine? , Do you mean the starter? if that's what you are referring to then yes the cable route is close to the exhaust manifold , on my truck there is a metal tube the wires from the junction block and alternator go through ,, that's about all the shielding you get it's not much but I guess it is enough ,, good luck

Ja, das ist richtig!

Hallo Chris! When you refer to sides of the engine, you use the driver's seat as your reference. The side with the starter is the right side, not the left. I do not remember what year vehicle you have, but it is normal that the wires run close to the exhaust. Some early years have a short, curved, metal tube that some wires pass through. If you like, you can run some thermal insulation on these wires. GM did this on LS engines.

Hi,
thank you two for your replies an explanation!
I‘ll definitly try to protect the cables a bit more, because the plastic tube which is around them is just a little melted near the firewall.

It don‘t has to be perfect, because one of my little projects in the near future is a new exhaust manifold which is not directly at the intake.

Hi,
for complete my question, today I made a picture:

In the black plastic tube are the cables to water temperature sensor, and to the alternator.

But I decided already, to put these cables away from there over the left side (don't know the english name of the chassis part)
