Title: Search for Infos to decode the engine serial
Post by: ChrisD on May 17, 2020, 03:50:55 pm
Hi,

me again. in prepatory work for the big car check in germany, so that i can get a licence plate, i need some more infos about the engine.
the Block casting number that the block a 250 and is made 75-76.
Okay, the car is from 78, so i'm not surprised, that its not the original motor.
For the serial, i haven't found all informations yet. The last 3 character are IAC, what does it tells me about the motor?

Does anyone know a site, where i can translate the serial?
All sites i've found until now described only engines til '72 or much older.

Regards

Chris

Does your truck have an inline 6 cylinder engine (which would be the 250 cubic inch 6 cylinder)?

I don't have any more info on the engine decoding, but you might find this site useful for info on your truck.  http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/

Hi Bruce,

thank you very much for the link, it‘s very interesting and i put it directly to my favorites!
The TAC engine suffix has been used for the 1978 LD4 250 Engine for federal use with manual transmission.
I‘ve found the info at 73-78 Chevrolet PartsCatalog at site 21.
