Title: New Member - Original/One Owner '77 C20 Scottsdale 4WD - Lots of work to do
Post by: texrun40 on June 01, 2020, 07:38:20 pm
Longer story, but the simple version: My grandfather bought this as his main ranch truck in '77.  Small ranch in Colorado and larger one in South Texas.  As a kid, it's all I knew him to drive.  This truck was legit ranch/farm truck.  He passed on in late 90s and it's been sitting under a carport or in the barn with occasional trips to town driven by my uncle.  He out of the blue called and asked if I wanted it (he didn't have the heart to sell it).  It's in rough cosmetic shape and just covered in dirt (again, real rancher/farm truck).  Engine is the 350, and runs really good.  lots of rust in the bed needs to be cut out/patched.

Transfer case was shot and is being rebuilt by a local mechanic that is stellar with this stuff.  After he fixes that and we check the transmission, then it's just getting back in decent shape with repairing the rust, seat tears (adding new duct tape like my granddad used :) ) and then normal maintenance (oil change, brake fluid change, spark plug change).  Also getting new tires once he's done with the transfer case this week.  I have all of his original manuals, window sticker, bill of sale (sold on Feb 10, 1977 for $6,739), etc. Just a treasure for me and the family, really. There are even a bunch of his tools still in those tool boxes.  It is the C20 Scottsdale with the full time 4WD.

Goal is to get it reliable, cleaned up, patched and tip top mechanically, but leave the overall look as is (with scratches and pitina) b/c it's just 'him'. I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions as I go through this.  Thanks in advance for any help along the way. (trying to attach pics w/ "attachments" since they can't seem to load by "inserting image".

Welcome to the forum!  Each of my grandfathers had 70’s C10’s - never got the chance to own them.  I’m sure it’s an honor and privilege having it and keeping it in the family.

I've got a 1977 K20 Silverado myself.  Welcome to the club.  Since it is 4wd, it would be considered a K20, not a C20.

Oh, I see that now on the window sticker and the bill of sale.  Thanks for the education! :)

Awesome, my pride and joy is my uncle's 85 I purchased after he passed...  He bought it new and timed it to take delivery of it just after he retired.  Welcome from the St. Louis, MO area!
