Title: Remove rear fender of a K10
Post by: uprising on June 04, 2020, 02:20:26 pm
Hi guys,

i‘m getting some rust on my rear fenders. Now i want to remove the fenders without lifting the whole bed. Does someone knows how to do it or has a draw? I can‘t find something at youtube nor google.

BR,

Btw: it is a K10 from 1973 ;)

Rear fender? Is it a step side? If so, they just unbolt.  Fleet sides also just unbolt but there are a few welds at the bottom of the rear stake pocket that need to be cut to remove the bed side.

It is a fleetside  ;)
I hoped that they also just bolted... I don‘t want to cut the welds so i have to lift the whole bed for repairing and paint.
Thanks for the quick answer!!

There are a lot of bolts to remove, but only a few welds that have to be cut.  They are on the rear stake pocket where it meets the floor, both topside and on the underside.  The welds on top are relatively obvious, once you scrape away the body caulk.  Underneath, you just have to look carefully at the location where the floor joins the stake pocket.  A good cutoff wheel or even a reciprocating saw will do the job.  Good luck!
