Title: rearend moves
Post by: mudbug on January 23, 2007, 08:36:00 am
81 k10 4x4 rearend feels like it moves when i stop and start.I had to use a lot of washers on one of the u bolts cause it was to long and it still didnt get totally tight before it ran out of threads.I cant find anyone around who sales u bolts that long{its gotta 4" lift kit}so i guess ill have to check the junk yards. My question is how many years did chevy use the same type of u bolts so ill know what to look for at the junk yard.   thanks

You are going to have to get longer u-bolts if you are using a 4" block.  (of which I cannot recommend)  Most likely the cause of your problems could be associated with the 4" blocks because they induce axlewrap (feels like the rearend is moving.
I would recommend investing in a suspension lift for the rear and/or at the least avoid any lift spacers over 2".
Any tractor supply/suspension company should be able to get you the u-bolts that are longer.  That is where I get mine.

The problem is one of my u bolts is too long,i need one thats a little less tall.As far as the lifts blocks being to tall the 4" kit has been on the truck for about 10 years and i havent had any problems until i recently had to cut off one of the u bolts and replaced it with one for a 6" lift kit

Check a tractor supply store, or somewhere they work on tractor trailer suspensions.  They should have what you need.
