Title: clanging noise?
Post by: lowc10 on January 28, 2007, 10:26:00 pm
i have a 85 swb with a th350, the trans was built to last me along time but you know how that can go. So just lately it started making a clanging noise when you put it in gear, the faster you go it goes away. But it is there for a few seconds when you take off sometimes. Think it's the u joints?

First thought in my mind is ujoints...easy to check.  Throw her in neutral after blocking the wheels and get up under and play w/ driveshaft and see if the joints are loose.

i recently had a clanging noise also and it turned out the tourqe converter was loose on the flywheel, the clanging noise only showed up at low rpm, and at higher rpm the noise was gone

I agree, sounds like the torque converter or flywheel is lose.

well it doesn't clang but when you back up and give it gas it clangs and stop and then go agian it will clang. When you start going it makes a squeeling pinging kinda noise for a little bit then goes away. I just got some new u joints from summit yesterday. So you think it's the verter or flexplate?
