Need help! I have a 454 out of a 78 suburban in my 83 k10, has started and ran before but my starter is very far out from the flex plate, the Bendix might catch 1/16 of an inch of the flex plate, turns slow, sometimes it doesn't do anything and virtually impossible to get it to crank consistently. Makes a terrible screeching sound, I've tried a stock style and a mini starter both with the same issue, I can't find a solution for this problem

Wrong flex plate?
-
I don't think so, it was attached to a th400 and then pulled I installed it to a built th350, seems original I don't see why or how the flex plate would be wrong and it matches the pads on converter
-
Try some shims.
-
Is the bendix fully extending (and at least 12v to the starter)?
-
Is it possible that it's in backward?
-
We'll boys it looks like my flex plate is on backwards, I thought the motor was never messed with but I was wrong
-
It happens... ::)

Thanks Shifty!
My 383 is still on the stand, and when I looked at it I could see how that would really 'shift' things!
I'm sure his TC was pulled out as well.
