Title: Rochester replacement
Post by: JohnnyPopper on July 07, 2022, 06:08:43 pm
Hey gang,

1978 K10 Mr. Goodwrench 350 CID, 350 THD, Converted NP203, 3.41:1, Cali truck, EGR  >:(, Rochester Carb.

I looked for a local rebuild outfit, found two, both said to replace it with an Edelbrock, would get better mileage.

These days I wouldn't mind that!

Any recommendations?

Should have stated, the reason for the post is I would like to get better mileage.

At these prices it will pay for itself quite quickly.

While you hear Cali State tax is 51-55 cents, when you add it all the other 'fees' it's 1.30 per gallon.

Greetings from the land of Fruits & Nuts!!!  :(

I could be wrong! However, I have had both on my truck and did not notice much difference. I have my Rochester back on now. EFI would probably give you better fuel economy.

You won't get better fuel economy from an Edelbrock. If that's the advice they gave you then stay away from them.

What Vile said...

It's tough to beat a (good running) Rochester with it's smaller primaries for penny pinching mileage.

It won't pass smog in Calif with an Edelbrock unless you have friends in low places. ;)

Thanks guys   ;D

I think I'll check out Cliff Ruggles, he seems well spoken of, unless you have a differing opinion.

Cliff is very good, but he may be backed up.

If so, i have had pretty good luck with this unit:

i believe these are 83-84 truck cores and i believe they are re manufactured by JET for Jegs.

Used both carbs and the Qjet is on now. it is a bit more effort to tune the rods and jets on the Qjet but it fits right and is the original #'s
The disk brakes should be checked for drag as this will have a large impact on m.p.g..
If the automatic transmission is holding back the truck, it will really slow down the fun factor.
