I recently purchased a 1987 V20. While working on it I noticed the rear leaf springs had 4+1 leafs. The vin number says its a v20, the breaks and drive train all match a v20. Did someone swap the rear leaf springs out with a half ton pickup?

I've got a good 1.38 million things going on, but I'll try to peek at mine tonight...
-
Sounds good, thank you
-
My 1980 C10 had twice the amount of leaves of my K20. You have to figure out what you want in terms of height and spring rate.
-
The truck is stock height. No lift. And I intend to keep it stock. I just didn't know if somebody had taken the stock Springs out of it and put these in for a smoother ride.. Because like you said my 1974 C15 has doubled the amount of leaves as the v20. Made me think somebody might have altered it at 1 point in time. But you're saying you think that is the stock amount of leafs?

My 87 V20 has 7 + 1! No wonder it rides like a giggered tank....
-
That sounds to me like the right number of leafs. Which makes me beleave someone at some point swapped these springs out with a 1/2 ton. The rest of the truck including Vin matches what a v20 is supposed to be. Thank you for taking a peek at yours for me shifty!

Just took a peek at my 74 c15 it is a short bed stepside and it has 7+1. It is bone stock unmolested. But was ordered with heavy duty springs and clutch. Doesn't make sense to me the 3/4 ton has less leafs.

I guess if your v20 has 7 leafs, and my half ton has more springs someone swapped the leafsprings out with a lighter truck. I got porked. Lesson learned
-
My 87 has 56" 7+1 on the Back and 4+1 on the front.
-
Unless your SPID label is in place and shows the suspension options you are solely basing what it came equipped with on assumptions.
-
That is true. I'll take a peek at it

Just decoded the rpo codes on the spid. The truck is a 6600 pund gvrw. A lot lower then I would have expected.
