Title: Another from TX
Post by: JApple on December 23, 2022, 08:57:02 am
Thought I would say hello from Texas.  I finally retired, so I'm hoping to have time to finally start working on my 85 K10.

Welcome from Central California.  That truck looks pretty nice just the way it sits.  Excellent platform from which to begin your adventure!  Looking forward to watching the progress.

Welcome from SoCal San Diego- land of fruits and nuts!

Nice rig, what do you plan to do to her?

That's a good question.. I go back and forth exactly what I want to do.   Needs new paint, but the passenger door is oil-canned & hood has hail dents. Has a little rust around the windshield I need to fix before it gets worse.   Currently is runs great.  I have had to fix minor issues over the years. -Heater core, window motors, fuel pump, A/C, spider gears, minor electrical shorts, etc...-Learning as I go.    I'm trying to determine how much money to spend on it.  It sits outside and there is something to be said about not having to worry about storms & parking lots.    So I'm pretty fickle about how nice to make it.

Welcome from AL! I was just in TX during Thanksgiving to visit my brother in McKinney.

For a truck kept outside I've been thinking this stuff might be a good way to go and not bother perfectly smoothing out all the dents even.

You can find lots of YouTube videos on guys doing whole reprints with it.

I haven't heard the term 'oil canned', do you mean dents? I get the hail part.  ;D

Well, you can walk a little farther in the parking lot to get to the store, and you can set up a manly canopy to park her under.

As an aside, I notice that the K trucks have a level stance and the C trucks have a slight rake. I guess that is/was the factory accounting for actual loads being freighted.

The reason I ask is I am putting together a C10 and installed coil spring shims to level her out. I tend to like the level look of my K10. Don't know if others have an opinion... ;)

@mr diesel.
  There is an  80 something K5 around town I’ve seen that has done the bed liner all over.  I’m still not sure what I think about it.

@johnnypopper.
 Oil canned = stretched metal.  I’ve been told you could heat it up with a torch to shrink it back, but it takes talent.  Most just replace the door.   The body of my truck is straight with no dents.  Just the hood & passenger door needs fixing.   I’m not sure about the stance.  I prefer level also.

Thanks! My lexicon has increased!

I too have heard that, I tried it about 40 years ago, it worked to a limited degree on a big punch on the side of fleet bed.

We didn't have U tube so had to live with it. It was a work truck after all... 8)

You'll find quite a brain trust on this site.
