Title: New here , K10 guy
Post by: jwseiberlich on March 06, 2023, 11:50:58 pm
Hey all,

New here from south jersey .   Check out my ‘85 K10.   Thinking of doing a 4bt Cummins conversion on her with a manual .  Thinking I’ll
Add K20 springs front and rear and her at 14 bolt Semi floater  for the rear-  thoughts on “converting” from K10 to K20?

Welcome from AL. You may want to keep what you have and get another K20 or K30 to do the mods, something with a stronger frame. Then again VZ or a few others would be able to give better advice.

It looks good just like that. I would leave it alone and just drive it and enjoy it.

Springs are tired and need to be replaced anyway , same with the beat 305.   Current set up is a 700r4 and a Corp 10 bolt.

So, if I’m changing parts anyway why not upgrade?  As for frame i’ve read before that essentially the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton are the same, with changes made to driveline/springs/brakes.

Has anyone had both a K10 and a K20 and can confirm this?

Welcome from SoCal the land of fruits and nuts...

What is your aim? Daily, work, what?

Let that determine your changes.

Nice ride, look forward to your progress.  8)

Good question - aim is a solid driver , not daily but often.  Not looking to win races but would love some good torque and fuel efficiency that a diesel offers

And Will use truck as a tow rig (boat or camper).  This rig is also my Home Depot running truck , I’ve been known to source things like heavy pavers/bricks with it.    Here’s a pic of the truck loaded to the wheelwells with bricks from a demolished factory in fishtown, Philadelphia .   Interestingly , but not surprisingly , I dropped a U joint the following day .

Simply, I’d love to beef up the entire truck and make it last a long , long time .

But There won’t be any crazy off roading or abuse of the vehicle, but she gets worked from time to time- it’s a truck, afterall .
