Autozone can get you a crate engine.

I got the autozone crate 5 years ago. I gotta long block for about $800. It still runs great but I ran into a couple of problems.

Before I swapped everything on it I checked all the torque specs and found one rod had not been properly torqued. Then after I got it all together and running one of the lifters wouldn't pump up right away. So I replaced those.  Now after five years and maybe 10,000 miles, one of the valve guides is needing work but the warranty ran out long ago.

Another autozone long block has proven itself worthy in my pop's old tow truck, 9 years running. He ordered one for a vette and it has flat top pistons where as the one I ordered for my truck has dished pistons leaving some power to be desired.

Just be sure to check everything whatever you get so you don't have more of a pita to deal with.
