I'm working on a 88 blazer with a sm465 my daughter borrowed this truck when I got it back the clutch pedal went to the floor. Replaced the slave cylinder then started it won't go into reverse. I pulled the shifter and found out why my question is what would cause this? The tunnel is welded so I can't get the top cover off with out cutting the tunnel ...dont really want to do this if the tranny has to come anyway I have a top cover off of a 78 465 will that work

Trying to figure out what we're looking at. ???
Is the 'tunnel' you refer to the hump in the floor?

The picture is the top cover looking down the shifter hole I'm guessing the clip failed on the reverse plunger. It looks like there is wear where the plunger should be not sure what would cause that. Yes I was referring to the hump

Thanks for clearing that up.
I thought my kids were the only ones that return stuff broke... :(
I thought the humps were removable, as in making room for transmission variations.

They make a SM 465 Top Small Parts Kit that includes the retaining ring as well as the spring, some detent balls, and some roll-pins.

Good to know for Mr. Burnze!
Somehow I think he's going to have to pull it out to clean the remnants of debris, otherwise known as 'hamburger helper'...
